Ocenco EEBD end of 15-year service life

12 April 2016

When SOLAS amendment to regulations II-2/13.3.4 and 13.4.3 came into force on 1 July 2002, all vessels were equipped with Emergency Escape Breathing Devices or EEBDs. At the time, maintenance-free Ocenco M-20.2 EEBD was one of the most popular choices. The 15-year service life on the first batch of EEBDs is approaching it’s end, and many will expire in 2017.

Datema Delfzijl B.V. has distributed Ocenco EEBDs since March 2006, and we would like to inform all our customers to check the expiry date of their EEBDs. Be informed that we expect an increased demand for Ocenco EEBDs in the time to come and the availability of replacement EEBDs may be influenced by that.

The Ocenco M-20.2 is one of the most popular choices with ship owners because it is maintenance-free over its 15-year service life. Easily worn on a belt in a confined space, it can be donned in seconds to provide up to 32 minutes of protection. Although more expensive than conventional air pressure EEBDs, the savings on annual servicing and a cylinder hydro test every fifth year, make the Ocenco product a very attractive proposition.
