Important news regarding the encryption of ENC's

12 July 2013

We would like to inform you about an important change in the encryption of ENC's which will become effective on the 1st of January 2014.

To make sure ENC's are not being copied illegally, the producer of the chart protects it using the S63 protocol. The combination of the permit (permit.txt) and a so called certificate (primar.crt) file is needed to install the charts on the ECDIS system. By the beginning of next year the Primar certificate which we use will become obsolete and needs to be replaced by the new IHO certificate. In the coming months we will supply you with all the necessary information and tools for a smooth transition. For now no action is needed from your side, this is just an pre-announcement. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us.
